Coca-Cola Challenge regional winners November 2010
Enterprising students win Real Business Challenge
On Wednesday 24 November, eight Year 10 students travelled to The Brit Oval Cricket Ground, London to take part in a competition to create a brand new soft drink. The competition, run by Coca-Cola, was run nationally and girls had to create, in their own time, an idea, marketing and finance for a new soft drink. Group So-Low entered their product 'So-Glo' to Coca-Cola and were successful in beating 116 other schools to gain the title of South East Regional Winners.
The day enabled the girls to build their enterprise skills and develop their product further with the help of a business consultant from Coca-Cola. As part of the competition deadlines had to be met throughout the day as well as a final presentation and radio advert in front of a panel of judges including guest speaker,Ben Fogle. The judges were impressed with the creativity of their drink idea and the commercial approach of their presentations.
Please have a look at the promotional video concerning the event, which includes contributions from Reading Girls' staff and students.
The group travelled to the grand final to compete against schools from across the country in January 2011 where they also received a prize of the 'London Experience' including a hotel stay, show and limousine ride. Sadly they did not win the national final, but they were a credit to the school. Members of the public complemented the staff on the girls behaviour whilst in the hotel. The event organisers were also most enthusiastic about the contribution that the girls made.
Well done to all those who took part - they have been great ambassadors for the school.
