School Council visit the Youth Cabinet

School Council members were recently invited to attend a Youth Council meeting

The School Council recently attended an event hosted by the Reading Youth Cabinet and Reading’s Youth MP. This was held in the inspiring Great Hall of the University of Reading, and the event was introduced by the Mayor of Reading.
Students attending from various schools were asked to debate a number of topics. Subjects included mental health, careers advice, personal safety, social media and the idea of voting at age 16. The information and points of view will help the Youth Cabinet decide their priorities for projects for the coming year. Also, as the Youth MP is soon to attend a Youth Parliament event in the Houses of Commons this will inform her decision on how to vote.
As Victoria, one of our school council representatives says:
“The trip was very interesting, teaching us things regarding politics and life after school. We met members of the Reading Youth Cabinet and learned about their roles within the organisation, debated on topics regarding social media, the legal age to vote, and even took selfies with the Mayor of Reading.”
