Y8 Website Design Graduation Ceremony
Verizon Community Outreach
End of Course Celebration
10 May 2011
We have been fortunate to have volunteers from Verizon in school as part of their community outreach programme. They have been working with students in Year 8 on their website design project. During the 9 session course the students have learnt web building skills and have been able to construct their own web sites.
On Tuesday, 10 May the students visited Verizon’s offices at Reading International Business Park for an end of course celebration. They found out more about Verizon, how their electronic fibres help the world connect and had a tour of the offices. Via a video-conference they also spoke with the chief executive, Tony Dragoni, who was in New Jersey! Finally all the students received certificates and a gift, and three students received special awards for their achievements in their website design.
As a Business & Enterprise specialist school we were delighted to welcome Verizon to the school for this exciting opportunity and hope the students’ work benefitted from the experience that Verizon staff brought to this project. It was also an excellent opportunity for the girls to develop their enterprise and work related skills such as teamwork, planning, communication and creativity.
Headteacher, Viv Angus said “This has been an excellent project – the students enjoyed themselves and indeed learnt a lot from Verizon and the skills developed will benefit them in their future. Congratulations to the students and many thanks to the team from Verizon.”
