On Thursday, 3 July Reading Girls’ School held a Maths Team Challenge for local primary schools.The primary schools were invited to send a team of their best mathematicians from Year 5 to take part in the event. Each team consisted of 4 competitors who took part in a number of rounds including group problem solving and a mathematical relay race.
10 Primary Schools from the local area attended the event which was run by staff from Reading Girls’ School and supported by past and present students from the school. The University of Reading provided the school with a STEM ambassador who spoke to the students about maths in the world around us as part of the event.
The first place award was awarded to English Martyrs Catholic Primary School with the runner up prize awarded to Caversham Primary School. Presentations were made to the winning teams by the head teacher of Reading Girls’ School, Viv Angus.
The Team Challenge was run using resources produced for this purpose by UK Mathematics Trust, an organisation who are dedicated to advancing the education of young people in Mathematics.
