SMSC
The development of students’ social, moral, spiritual and cultural awareness is at the core of our curriculum: we explore spirituality, for example, by analysing religious references in plays and trying to identify the “je ne sais quoi” that makes an actor’s performance of a role unique; we develop students’ understanding of morality, and their own moral conscience, by examining human interaction and responsibility as explored by Zephaniah in the set play script “FACE”; we explore different cultures and traditions in, for example, practitioners, with a strong focus on the influences of their respective countries in the development of their acting methods. Finally, culture and society are examined in order to understand a particular writer’s ideas and intentions, while in students’ own development of drama skills we encourage students to be aware of their world and, fundamentally, their place within society.  The exploration of various scenarios and their different outcomes with just one component being changed emphasizes the importance of tolerance and awareness in our world.
