Reading Girls' School

The Haven

Changing lives.  One day at a time……

The Haven is situated in South Reading, in the grounds of Reading Girls’ School and is open to girls in years 6, 7 and 8 with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties or barriers to learning and development.

The Haven team works collaboratively with students, parents/carers, external professionals as well as the host school to identify and overcome emotional barriers. The programme has a strong therapeutic element encouraging communication, relationship building, problem solving and providing tools to overcome emotional and behavioural ‘stuckness’.

All students are encouraged to take ‘risks’ and The Haven aims to support, challenge and motivate the girls to take responsibility for their own behaviours and manage their responses to difficult situations to enable them to function safely and successfully in their host school and in the wider community.

Our programme covers a broad range of key skills tailored to meet the specific need of the individual child and topics covered are designed to help the students manage academic and emotional challenges as well as develop relevant skills for life. We encourage our students to set targets and work within clear boundaries and seek the support and co-operation of parents/carers to aid in this process. Working in collaboration with families and therapeutic professionals, we provide a firm framework within which every girl has the chance to succeed.
