Equalities

HOW WE ADDRESS THE THREE MAIN ELEMENTS OF THE PUBLIC SECTOR EQUALITY DUTY

Updated: January 2024

ELIMINATING DISCRIMINATION AND OTHER CONDUCT THAT IS PROHIBITED BY THE EQUALITY ACT 2010

  • Our Behaviour Policy and Anti-bullying Policy are available in the policy section;
  • Our Recruitment and Pay Policy are available upon request from the school reception.  In these policies, the importance of avoiding discrimination and other prohibited conduct is expressly noted;
  • Staff training on the Equalities Act 2010;
  • Monitoring of equality issues.  Reading Girls' School currently has mechanisms and procedures in place in order to identify and monitor equality issues relating to students and staff.

ADVANCING EQUALITY AND OPPORTUNITY BETWEEN PEOPLE WHO SHARE A PROTECTED CHARACTERISTIC AND PEOPLE WHO DO NOT SHARE IT

  • We publish attainment data which shows how pupils with different characteristics perform;
  • We have intervention classes to help students catch up in science and boost the English language skills of bilingual children.

FOSTERING GOOD RELATIONS ACROSS ALL CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN PEOPLE WHO SHARE A PROTECTED CHARACTERISTIC AND PEOPLE WHO DO NOT SHARE IT

  • Our PSHE curriculum and assemblies promote tolerance and friendship and deal with relevant issues.
  • Our RE curriculum supports pupils to develop an understanding of the range of religions and cultures. Other curriculum areas also promote aspects of tolerance and friendship, such as English, Geography, History, Drama and Dance.
  • Our behaviour expectations are based on respect for self and others. These values and expectations are communicated regularly and consistently through a variety of means.
