Principal’s Message

This week has seen Year 7 and 8 participating in STEM days. Year 7 enjoyed a reptile roadshow on Wednesday as part of their STEM learning. The students learnt about a variety of reptiles including snakes and lizards as well as invertebrates such as millipedes and cockroaches and arachnids such as scorpions. They were also able to handle some of these wonderful creatures. It was a great day with lots of smiles, all the students were very brave and the chinchilla was a big hit.

The year 8s took part in a mobile planetarium known as the wonderdome as part of their STEM learning. The students got to learn all about universe and solar system in mini planetarium and a whistle stop tour through the milky way. The wonderdome was a great success and all the students did very well and hopefully a memorable experience for all.

A group of year 10 students had a wonderful opportunity this week to visit the offices of SSE in central Reading. After hearing how the company came into being and why two long serving staff members like working for SSE so much, they were introduced to some apprentices. They were shown their office space and desk and talked with them about their work. This was followed by a 'speed networking' session where they had the chance to talk to a variety of staff for a few minutes and ask questions about their work life and career path. This included graduates apprentices and long serving staff and a very wide range of roles including engineers, project managers and designers. After a lovely lunch, they heard about the career opportunities and personal journeys of staff from Clancy, a construction company they work with.

Thank you to Galina and all the staff at SSE for an excellent day, and to Speakers for School for their support.

I wish you all a restful weekend.

Kind regards

Marika Farrugia, Principal
